Some Quick Updates, Mini 311 and More

Some Quick Updates, Mini 311 and MoreFirst of all I want to say thank-you to everyone that has come to the site, and used our Mac OS X guides as well as to those that have donated to MyMacBookMini. This past month has brought quite a bit of news.

The HP Mini 311 series was announced in back in September, released mid-September and did not ship out until earlier this month.

It comes with an NVidia ION graphics platform, which has raised a whole lot of questions about whether or not Mac OS X will be operable.

Good news is that the Mac OS X will work on the HP Mini 311 series. There has been a whole lot of testing and “hacking” going on at InsanelyMac and MyHPMini forums. At MyHPMini, forum member superviza has almost every feature working except for sound.

We are trying to find some HP Mini 311 users to help us put together a guide for everyone to you. If you have installed Mac OS X, please contact us and let us know!

Other ways that you can help:

We are on twitter at @mymacbookmini, so check us out and follow us there.

Donate to MyMacBookMini by clicking the “ChipIn” widget to the right side. All donations will go towards guides, support and hosting. One possible goal is to raise enough to get an HP Mini 311 or other add-ons such as OS X compatible WiFi modules for testing.

Vanilla Crazy

11383 MEDIUM Vanilla Crazy

Like good ol’ (or should we say, stubborn?) Alice, I’ve gone down the rabbit hole to EFI boot.

What is EFI boot anyhow? Not that I’m assuming those who’re reading this post don’t have a inkling but it’s the question I’d asked myself when I stumbled on the thread over at forums so I’m including it here as a reminder to my own self, actually just a couple of reasons why I’m going EFI:

- It lets me keep my hackintosh kexts separate from my main Mac OS X installation; no need for changing anything in /System/Library/Extensions/ folder. What people call “100% Vanilla”.

- I can update fine without breaking my install. (at least that’s the main thrust of the exercise – a solid as rock installation in terms of stability)

So my MacBook Mini is now 100% Vanilla Snow Leo + EFI boot. But there are still bumps like the all too infamous sleep/hibernate issue that I need to iron out, hopefully with DSDT patching.

All in all, I’m still just scratching the surface with this new method (at least to me) and sometimes my inner noob gets overwhelmed with all the information going on. I hope I survive this one alive to get a how-to guide going in the near future.

For the meantime, I’m all crazy about Vanilla – ice cream and installation variant alike. :D

One MacBook Mini To Rule Them All?

Setting Frodo aside, here’s an interesting find from

macbook mini china One MacBook Mini To Rule Them All?Don’t we just love the ingenuity, or rather flare for imitation that our fellow asians, the Chinese, have?

If Apple is slow to catch up on the netbook craze and has left us craving for a MacBook Mini to the point of resorting to hacking all flavors of existing iterations of this portable computing platform on the market just to get some Mac OS X lovin’; then China proves to be the angel of mercy that brings into fruition something that’s only heard of from “extreme mods” sections in our respective forums.

In summary these guys have put the all too familiar by now 1.6 GHz Atom N270, 1 GB RAM, IntelGMA950 in a drool-worthy package.

I’m loving the island keyboard though the trackpad may be a lot less stellar than on a real MacBook.

Personally, I doubt it’s real aluminum. More like spray painted plastic :D See the rest of the pics at
